While out with my wife for our anniversary we stopped in a wonderful gallery on Martha’s Vineyard with a wonder selection of Alfred Eisenstaedt prints. These Marilyn Monroe images were among them.

Datafest: Hacking Campaign Finance Data over a Weekend
This weekend I had the pleasure of helping to run Datafest, a two day campaign finance hackathon at Stanford. The event brought together around 60 journalists, technologists and students, many of whom had no prior experience in campaign finance or data driven journalism. The enthusiasm and dedication of the group—as well as the results—were truly heartening to see.

The movie “Epic time-lapse map of Europe” fast forwards a map from the year 1000 AD until 2003 to reveal the dynamic nature of Europe’s borders, alliances, unions, territories, and occupied lands.An alternative movie takes a bit longer, but contains useful textual annotations such as the actual year that is shown and the events that occurred.
